Our Range of Courses

You will see in this website reference to ‘accredited’ and ‘non-accredited’ training courses, what is the difference?

Accredited training programmes or courses are where the learner will get a recognised qualification on successful completion of the course of learning. These qualifications are provided by ‘Awarding Bodies’. Awarding bodies are organisations that develop and award qualifications to meet the needs of learners, employers and other stakeholders. There are over 160 Awarding Bodies in the United Kingdom, some develop qualification standards and are often referred to as a ‘Lead Body’ and some Awarding Bodies use the standards developed by others in the qualifications they offer. An example of this would be the Institute of Widget Makers would design and obtain approval for a level three qualification in ‘Widget Control’ and other Awarding Bodies would use the ‘Widget Control Standards’ in the qualifications they offer.

Awarding Bodies can take the form of :

  • registered charities
  • chartered institutes such as the CMI or CIPD
  • commercial businesses such as City & Guilds and ILM
  • employers who have established their own awarding body
  • small sector specific bodies or large cross-sectoral bodies

In the main Awarding Bodies are organisations that provide qualifications to schools, commerce and industry at all levels and across a vast range of subjects from refuse collection to managing a business.

Irrespective of their shape and size awarding bodies do focus on:

  • Developing high quality qualifications that meet the needs of employers and learners
  • Approving centres (such as us here at Focus Management for Business limited) and working with centres to ensure the high quality delivery of qualifications
  • Carrying out activities designed to assure the quality of the qualifications awarded
  • Developing innovative products and services to support their centres and learners

Many awarding bodies (over 160) are recognised by Ofqual. However, some are not. Visit the Federation of Awarding Bodies website for more information - http://www.awarding.org.uk/

Non-accredited training courses are where the knowledge and skill are taught in the same way as the accredited courses but there is not the demand to work through complex evidence gathering procedures or the writing of lengthy assignments and be subject to scrutiny at every step of the way.

In short non-accredited training will get you the same level of knowledge without the qualification. Those learners who attend a Focus non-accredited training course will get a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the training programme.

Where the training delivery is the same for both the accredited and non-accredited courses we will take learners who are taking both routes. However, once on a pathway you will only be able to convert in exceptional circumstances.
